Kurt Sonneman
A Passionate Local with a World of Experience
Kurt is a proud Central Coast local whose culinary journey has taken him from the heart of Newcastle’s fine dining scene to some of the most acclaimed restaurants in London — and back home again, where he now shares his passion through Private Chef Catering.
Kurt began his career as a dedicated apprentice in Newcastle, honing his craft in renowned establishments such as Bacchus and Restaurant Deux, where he developed a deep appreciation for technique, presentation, and the art of flavour. His commitment to excellence was recognised early on when he was awarded the prestigious Brett Graham Scholarship in 2011 — a career-defining moment that opened doors to the international culinary stage.
During his time in London, Kurt worked in two of the city’s most iconic kitchens: the two Michelin-starred Ledbury and the Harwood Arms, famed for its seasonal British fare. These experiences not only sharpened his skills but shaped his distinctive culinary style — refined, produce-driven, and elegantly understated.
A Dedicated & Passionate Chef
Returning to the Central Coast with a wealth of global experience, Kurt brought his passion and leadership to the forefront, guiding his team to win Gold at the Chef’s Table Awards two years running. His dedication to the local food scene continues today, as he balances a dynamic career teaching Commercial Cookery and Hospitality at TAFE, working in respected Central Coast restaurants, and delivering unforgettable dining experiences through Private Chef Catering.
Driven by a love of food, people, and storytelling through cuisine, Kurt now invites clients to enjoy the unique pleasure of restaurant-quality dining in the comfort of their own home — combining world-class skill with a warm, personalised touch.
